The table below contains deltas between performance on a M1 based 2020 13&amp;quot; MacBook Pro and an Intel based 2017 13&amp;quot; MacBook Pro (i5-7267U) for all of the benchmarks in the Go standard library. Given the Intel laptop is a somewhat older model this isn&amp;rsquo;t going to be a perfect test of M1 vs. Intel performance, but should give a good idea of how they stack up (especially for the entry level models that the M1 chips are now competing against).</description>

Given that it often feels somewhat excessive to have a machine solely for this purpose. I could sacrifice a machine to dual boot but the only suitable one I have, an ageing AMD 1920X box, currently serves as a ESXi host running a number of long lived services.</description>

Previously I worked at Internet Security Research Group developing Boulder, the software that runs Let&amp;rsquo;s Encrypt, from scratch. It now powers what is arguably the largest public Certificate Authority. I currently work at Google on the Go Security team.

      <description>After years of suffering a DSL internet connection I recently switched to a provider offering gigabit fiber. Unfortunately my building isn&amp;rsquo;t setup to get a strand dropped directly into my apartment so instead I have to live with an ethernet drop (this is typically referred to as a Fiber to the Building, or FTTB, setup).
After doing away with the awful CPE router I&amp;rsquo;d been stuck with for the last few years I realized I had an opportunity to replace it with something better.</description>
